Vancouver, Washington-based Nightdive Studios, the team famous for resurrecting classic PC games that have been out of print for years, has announced its next major project. During the PC Gaming Show, the studio revealed it is working on a remaster of "Thief: The Dark Project," the groundbreaking stealth game originally released in 1998. The remaster is scheduled to launch this winter and will be available on PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, the upcoming Switch 2, and PC.
Nightdive has built a strong reputation for polishing older titles with modern technology while keeping the original feel intact. The studio has previously handled remasters for games like "System Shock," "Quake," and "Turok." "Thief: The Dark Project" is widely considered one of the most important games in the stealth genre, setting standards for light and sound mechanics that many later games followed. Players take on the role of Garrett, a master thief navigating dark, atmospheric environments to pull off complex heists while avoiding guards and traps.
The announcement has generated excitement among fans who have long hoped for an updated version of the game. Nightdive has not yet shared specific details about graphical improvements or gameplay changes, but the studio's track record suggests a faithful update that respects the original vision. With a release planned for multiple platforms, including the Switch 2, the remaster aims to bring this classic to a new generation of players.
