An industry veteran is looking back on his long career with a sense of awe, stating that the last twenty years represent a golden age for video games. Speaking candidly about his time in the business, he described the period as "one of the greatest creative explosions in history," adding that "the past couple of decades have been some of the greatest times in video games."
The developer, who has worked on major titles across multiple console generations, reflected on how the medium has evolved from simple arcade concepts into a sprawling art form. He noted that the rapid advancements in technology allowed teams to tell deeper stories and build worlds that were previously impossible. "We went from sprites to fully realized 3D environments in what felt like the blink of an eye," he said.
He also pointed to the diversity of genres that flourished during this time. From blockbuster action games to quiet, narrative-driven indie projects, he argued that the industry has never been more varied. "There is something for everyone now," he explained. "That variety is what makes it so exciting."
While acknowledging the challenges of crunch culture and corporate pressure, the veteran remained optimistic about the future. He believes the current generation of developers is inheriting a rich legacy. "The tools are better than ever, and the audience is hungry for new ideas," he concluded. "I wouldn't trade my front row seat for anything."
