Moss: The Forgotten Relic Review - There's a Mouse in the House

The beloved virtual reality adventure Moss has shed its headset requirements and scurried onto standard screens with "The Forgotten Relic," a re-release that brings the tale of Quill the mouse to a wider audience. For those unfamiliar, this is a charming action-puzzle game where you guide a small but brave rodent through a storybook world, solving environmental puzzles and battling oversized insects and mechanical foes. The core question, of course, is whether the experience survives the transition from immersive VR to a flat monitor.

The short answer is yes, mostly. The game's strength has always been its heartfelt presentation and clever level design, not just the gimmick of leaning in to look at a miniature kingdom. You still control Quill directly with one stick while using the other to manipulate objects in the world, a system that translates smoothly to a standard controller. The diorama-like environments remain gorgeous, and the bond you form with the little mouse is just as strong when you are watching her through a screen rather than standing beside her.

However, the loss of VR does trim some of the magic. The sense of scale is diminished, and the simple act of peeking around a corner or reaching out to pet Quill is gone. It is still a solid, family-friendly adventure with a runtime of about four to five hours, but it feels more like a good puzzle game than the groundbreaking experience it once was. For newcomers without a VR headset, this is an easy recommendation. For veterans, it is a pleasant but slightly diminished memory.
