Destiny 2 fans face long wait as Bungie delays and overhauls next major update

Destiny 2 fans face long wait as Bungie delays and overhauls next major update

Destiny 2 players anticipating the game's next major chapter, "The Final Shape," will have to wait a little longer. Developer Bungie has officially confirmed a significant delay for the expansion, pushing its release from February to June 2024.

In a recent communication, the studio stated the extra time is necessary to fully realize its ambitious vision for this culmination of the game's decade-long Light and Darkness saga. The delay impacts the entire content roadmap, including the upcoming season, which will now be extended.

Crucially, Bungie revealed that the expansion's new episode, "Echoes," is being "changed and expanded" into a more substantial offering. This major overhaul suggests that what was initially planned as a post-launch episode is being reworked into a more significant part of the overall narrative experience.

The announcement acknowledges the disappointment within the community but frames the decision as essential for quality. Bungie promises that "The Final Shape" needs to be "an unforgettable moment" for players who have invested years in the franchise. The extended development window will be used to refine the expansion, polish its new destination and enemies, and ensure the story delivers a fitting conclusion. The studio plans to share more detailed updates on its progress in the new year.
