New 'Kingdom Hearts', 'Zelda: Ocarina of Time' Remake Unveiled at Nintendo Direct

New 'Kingdom Hearts', 'Zelda: Ocarina of Time' Remake Unveiled at Nintendo Direct

Nintendo dropped a wave of surprises during its latest Direct presentation, confirming a new entry in the Kingdom Hearts series alongside a full remake of the beloved classic The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. The announcement sent fans into a frenzy, as both franchises hold massive cultural weight in the gaming world.

The new Kingdom Hearts project, simply titled Kingdom Hearts: Lost Light, appears to be a standalone adventure separate from the main numbered saga. Early footage showed Sora exploring a shattered, monochrome world with a mysterious new companion. The visual style leans into a darker, more painterly aesthetic, a departure from the series' usual bright Disney-inspired palette. No release date was given, but the game is reportedly in development for both Nintendo Switch and other platforms.

On the Zelda front, the Ocarina of Time remake is not a simple port or upscale. According to the Direct, it is a ground-up rebuild using the engine from the latest Zelda titles. The presentation showed Hyrule Field rendered with dynamic weather, fully voiced characters, and a reworked combat system that blends classic lock-on mechanics with modern fluidity. The remake is scheduled for a holiday 2025 launch, exclusively on Nintendo's next-generation hardware.

Other notable reveals included a new 2D Metroid title and a surprise sequel to the cult hit Eternal Darkness. However, the twin announcements of Kingdom Hearts and Ocarina of Time dominated the conversation, proving that Nintendo still knows how to deliver the kind of nostalgia that sells hardware.
