The latest brick-built adventure for the Caped Crusader, LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, has landed to generally positive reviews, with players praising its sprawling Gotham City and clever puzzles. However, a significant design choice regarding its cooperative mode is drawing sharp criticism from fans who prefer to play with a partner.
The core issue stems from a strict screen-tethering system. Unlike many modern LEGO games that allow players to roam freely across the map, this title forces both players to remain on the same screen at all times. If one player wanders too far, they are immediately yanked back to the other's location. This creates constant interruptions, especially during exploration or when one player wants to solve a puzzle while the other searches for collectibles. The mechanic feels like a step backward, evoking the limitations of older couch co-op games rather than the flexible, drop-in-and-out style fans have come to expect.
While the game's story and character roster are strong, this co-op restriction is a genuine headache for duos. It turns what should be a seamless shared experience into a tug-of-war over the camera. For a title that markets itself as a family-friendly multiplayer game, this oversight is a frustrating blemish on an otherwise solid LEGO outing.
